Privacy and your data
TalkTaps helps people communicate with words, phrases, typing, pictures and speech.
TalkTaps is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app from ONET Media Group. It helps people communicate using words, phrases, typing, pictures and speech. This policy describes the current build; future online voice or AI services would need updated information before they are introduced.
Information on your device
TalkTaps saves personal vocabulary, phrases, chosen pictures, recordings, familiar-person details, settings and profiles on your device. Your regular typed draft is saved locally until cleared; practice typing is separate and temporary. Selected areas use a caregiver PIN. PIN information and active pairing secrets use device-only secure storage. A caregiver PIN is not a substitute for the device passcode and does not protect exported files.
Speech, pictures and permissions
Speak uses installed Apple voices and saved audio. No ElevenLabs or OpenAI service is connected in this build. Build my words and practice use prepared suggestions and conversations. Microphone access is used when you choose to record; you can use Apple speech or imported audio without recording your own voice. The photo picker lets you choose images. The camera is used when you choose QR pairing. Optional caregiver PIN recovery uses Apple's device-owner authentication; TalkTaps does not receive your Face ID image, biometric template or device passcode.
Caregiver Link
When you choose to send through Caregiver Link, encrypted message text is stored using Apple iCloud. The linked caregiver can read the message and confirm Seen. Cloud records also include account/share identifiers, record identifiers, timing and pairing information needed to operate the link. Encryption does not hide all metadata. Sending through Apple's phone-message composer is a separate option handled by Apple and your messaging service.
New private links use approved access. Removing cloud access requires an internet connection and confirmation from iCloud. Previously downloaded or copied messages cannot be recalled. Older links have different protections: until upgraded, stopping sends does not revoke access to old cloud messages. Review the explanation shown for your link before removing it.
History, retention and deletion
There is no automatic message expiry. Use Caregiver Link and Saved history to review the available cloud deletion and local removal actions. Saved history contains encrypted snapshots of already-loaded messages, not necessarily a complete cloud download. Its key stays on that device and is not part of a TalkTaps board backup.
Invitation codes expire for new approvals after 10 minutes. Cancel unfinished pairing to clean up tracked setup records. For new private links on updated devices, refreshing Messages on both devices lets TalkTaps confirm the saved connection and clean up the temporary invitation and request. Failed operations may need retrying. Older untracked records, records left by disconnecting before cleanup finishes, and records belonging to another account may remain. The app does not perform an account-wide deletion of unknown records.
Backups and transfers
You choose where to save an exported board backup, including a local Files location or iCloud Drive. It can contain words, phrases, pictures, recordings, familiar-person details and settings. It has no separate backup password. Sharing the file shares its contents. PINs, pairing, Messages and Saved history are not transferred in this board backup. Restore also keeps a local recovery copy. Exported and recovery copies can retain older content after you edit or delete it in the app. Manage exported copies using Files; your device's Apple backup settings are separate from TalkTaps exports.
Advertising, analytics and external services
The current TalkTaps build has no advertising or cross-app tracking integration and no third-party analytics SDK. Apple services such as iCloud, voice downloads, device backup and message composition operate under Apple's terms and privacy information. If you contact ONET Media Group, your email and any information you choose to include are handled outside the app to respond to your request. Please avoid sending personal message histories, recordings, backup files, PINs or passwords unless a specific support need has been discussed.
Support email retention
We delete TalkTaps support emails and attachments 30 days after an issue is closed, unless they are still needed for an unresolved issue or a legal obligation. If an issue is reopened, the period starts again when it is closed. This support-email policy does not delete your in-app messages, iCloud records or personal backups.
Children, teens and adults
TalkTaps supports different communication needs. A child, teen or adult setup choice does not automatically send that choice to an online AI service. A trusted adult should help a child manage sharing, permissions and backups, while involving the person who uses TalkTaps in choices about their own voice and communication.
